THE ROMANS AND THE GAULS Part 2 of 2 by Tom Crotty

In the last issue, Tom introduced us to the cultural clash between the Romans and the Celts (or Gauls as they were known to their contemporary Romans). In this issue he continues to explore classical views of the Gauls, including voices of classical writers such as Tacitus and Ausonius who may have been more Gallophilic than their contemporaries.

THE BODHRAN AND APPALACHIAN MUSIC by Darrin Baird

Darrin takes us on an exploration of the Bodhran, an Irish drum popular in Irish music. He comes to a somewhat surprising conclusion explaining why this widely played instrument never became a part of the Appalachian musical tradition.
